This Is The Place

Yesterday we went to This Is the Place Heritage Park in SLC and had a blast! I had no idea what we were missing out on. There is so much to do there, we didn't even get to half of it in the 2 1/2 hours we were there. We definitely will be going back for another visit. The girls loved it.

Their favorite was doing all the pioneer chores - washing + hanging the laundry, beating the rug, using the hand plow, watering the garden. We probably spent 30 minutes just doing laundry. That was their favorite. We may need to invest in some washboards and clothes lines. Perhaps then I could get some help doing our laundry ;)

McKenna learning how to beat the rug:

When I told her that this is how the pioneers cleaned their rugs because they didn't have vacuums, McKenna just said, "But Mom, they have a broom in their house. They could just use that." That girl's a thinker.

After all the chores, we headed up the street for the candy cannon. It's exactly what it sounds like. They shoot a cannon full of candy (taffy) into the street and the kids collect it all.

Brooke slept through the whole thing.

We then hopped on the train to head over to the other side of the park.

We searched for gold in the river.

Brooke just sat in the river and played with rocks. Clearly, she was as happy as can be.

Hot, muddy, wet, and worn out, we hopped back on the train to head home.

We had such a fun day. There was so much more we didn't get to do. Next time we go we will go on pony rides, do some crafts, get some ice cream, ride the little train a whole lot more (that was Brooke's favorite), and do a lot more laundry, I'm sure. We are big fans of This Is the Place Heritage Park.

All in all, it was the perfect way to celebrate Pioneer Day.

Arthur and I went there a couple of years ago and loved it. It's great for adults too. Everyone should get to experience some of what the pioneers did. Good times!

Megan I so wanted to go there. I saw it on an advertisement and ever since wanted to go. What a perfect way to celebrate Pioneer Day. I am quite envious. The pictures are perfect, I bet you are having so much fun with that camera. I still want to go the gardens with you before the summer is over. Lets talk girly :)
